“We’re fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance.”
[my art blog dedicated to everyday muses]Our teachers were so busy trying to scare us away from ever having sex, lest we wind up half-masticated slut-sandwiches, that they couldn’t be bothered to teach us adequate birth control, or the importance of consent, or how to make sex pleasurable instead of terrifying and shameful.
I’m really getting into the articles at xojane!
I am so glad that even though I had attended a predominantly Christian school in a traditionally Catholic society, they never tried the compare-a-woman’s-sexuality-to-half-eaten-food tactic, I guess I’m lucky they even HAD sex-ed in the first place! I remember we talked about STDs and touched quite briefly on contraception in Health class, we also got up and did little skits about common AIDS myths, and I even remember a young teacher answer quite frankly how her first time having sex felt like.
Sure, it was after her wedding and all in all premarital sex is still a big taboo subject, god forbid you even think about living with someone without the whole marriage thing, but knowing that we can have these sort of dialogues in a very orthodox, very traditional country, gives me hope after reading that ridiculous gimmicks like in the article are still being pulled.
