“Basically, I believe even a fetus is a human who deserves the right to be born. So, I’m pro-life. And, if life were simple and if everything were black and white, I might be okay with voting for politicians who want to restrict abortions. But… Life’s not simple and most of it is grey, and making abortion illegal doesn’t stop abortion. It doesn’t save unborn babies. Making abortion illegal does, however, hurt women. I can’t, in good conscious, leave those struggling single mothers, hurting rape victims, frightened teenagers, and other women with unplanned pregnancies to coat hangers and dangerous drugs. That’s not being pro-life. It’s just not. So, I’m pro-choice.”—

This is about I guess as close to how I feel about the issue as I have ever heard another person admit.
I used to think the world was black and white too. I saw the tiny fetuses in little glass jars when I was in high school and believe too that they had whole potential lives ahead of them, that no one has the right to end what could have been an eventful an existence as you or me were ever entitled too. That every person had a right to a life.
But I realized that to deny a woman of the right to choose would be taking their life from them as well. To dictate what they can and cannot do with their bodies would be tantamount to dictating what we can or cannot do to unborn fetuses.
Perhaps the issue of abortions shouldn’t be abortions themselves but reasons behind unplanned pregnancies in the first place. Rape culture. Poor sex education. The fact that even in this day and age women are seen as little higher than sexual commodities whose reproductive rights are seen as insignificant.I’m not even talking about socities where girls are still being pushed into arranged marriages, I’m talking about developed socities in which media pushes the idea into impressionable young girls that the only way to be seen or heard or even be acknowledged depends on how “hot” you are, how sexually appealing you are, how subserviant you are to the desires of men. Lets face it, the only female representatives there are in mainstream media are the impossible airbrushed, svelte, manicured and polished young ideals of male fantasies. How is a woman supposed to make informed choices about her sexuality and reproductive rights if her opinions are colored with how she is peceived in society due to this garbage?
I suppose on the whole I still feel reservations about abortion but this is my personal issue and I have as much right to tell a woman what to do with her body as every other individual out there, which is none. All life is precious and we should all have the right to fight for how we deserve to live it.

I’m still calling myself pro-life because I don’t see how supporting a woman’s right to choice no matter the situation...
